A Big Second Weekend for the Guardians of the Galaxy
Being part of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is no surprise that the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 is taking names. It has already grossed over $60 million and $530.9 million globally. With this film now in its second weekend, it recently claimed the title for the best second weekend hold of any MCU sequel.
The Guardian series follows a band of outer space misfits and their wacky adventures fighting for justice across the galaxy. They have made appearances in other Marvel movies and held an integral role in Avenger’s Infinity War and Endgame. This third volume takes a look at how the Guardians are handling life with the ramifications from the destruction Thanos caused while setting course to protect Rocket from a new villain.
As of right now, there are no new Guardian movies in the making. Filmmaker James Gunn says that this will be the final installment in the series and the last time the Guardians will be together on screen.
Even with this bittersweet goodbye to the alien team that is beloved by many, it put Marvel back in the spotlight after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantomania didn’t quite meet all the expectations in the box office. Even though it won’t be another Guardians movie, with Vol. 3 being the 32nd MCU film to be released, fans are excited to see what else Marvel has in store.
