A Change in Twitter’s Blue Check
Twitter has recently come out with a way for any user to get a blue checkmark. The blue check on twitter generally indicates verified accounts that are highly notable and authentic that have reached a certain number of requirements. However, all of that has changed.
Twitter has relaunched an option for users to pay for a blue check. It costs $8 a month for subscribers. There is also a color-coded formula for these check marks. Gold checks are reserved for companies and gray checks are for anything related to the government and other organizations. Blue checks can be for any individual whether or not they are celebrity.
The only distinguishing factor has now become a little note telling users whether or not an account is legacy verified meaning it was verified before this change. It has also been suggested that people with checkmarks previously may not continue to have if they do not pay for the new subscription service.
This change is one way Elon Musk has been trying to bring the company out of debt since his takeover. Along with this relaunch, an estimated 2000 people have been laid off. This is about 10% of the company. This means that there isn’t as many people to check the verifications, so there could be some potential trouble that the company could run into, but for now users will just have to wait and see how this relaunch changes the way Twitter is used.
