A Super Release for the Mario Bros.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in theaters last weekend, and it is already setting records. It is now the highest-grossing film based on a video game and also has the biggest worldwide opening weekend for an animated film. It has received mixed reviews from audiences, but mostly a positive outlook with a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.7 stars on Google.
This movie comes as a redemption from the 1993 live-action Mario movie that failed commercially. Nintendo was hesitant to provide licensing for another movie, but after joining with Universal Studios, this movie is doing ages better this time around.
The movie centers around the famous Italian brothers Mario and Luigi and Princess Peach and their journey to stop Bowser from taking over the world. Other fan favorites such as Toad and Donkey Kong are also featured in this film.
The movie also has a star-studded line-up with Chris Pratt voicing Mario, Jack Black voicing Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key voicing Toad, and Seth Rogen voicing Donkey Kong. There is even a song from the movie that is sung by Jack Black titled Peaches that has taken the internet by storm.
For many video game fans, this movie is bringing back feelings of nostalgia as they think about the hours they spent playing Super Mario Bros on their Nintendo devices, and they are excited about this action-comedy that is doing their favorite childhood characters justice.
