ChatGPT: A Blessing or a Curse?
ChatGPT is quickly taking over the internet. This viral AI chatbot displays how powerful AI can really be. It can be used to ask questions, write papers, and even respond to emails. You can essentially ask it anything you want. This AI uses pattern recognition and its training to come up with human-like responses. With this being said, it doesn’t actually have the answer to everything, which is why users are told to proceed with caution.
Open AI, the company that brought the internet ChatGPT, only has 375 employees that put together this innovative form of AI. As of right now, the service is free to use for anyone, but the company is currently spending about $3 million a month, so they recently announced a premium membership that will be available for people willing to pay an extra $20. It upgrades users to faster response times and new features.
Beyond just staying on the internet, ChatGPT is also being introduced into social apps. This AI will be used to talk to colleagues in Slack by coming up with instant messages. Snapchat is also
releasing ChatGPT for premium members. Other companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Meta are looking to integrate AI technology within their products as well.
With all the cool things that come with this innovation, there are drawbacks as well. Several academic institutions have already banned this new technology because they are concerned students will use it to cheat and plagiarize by having it write essays and answering any questions that students might otherwise have to work for. Regardless, this AI is looking like it is going to stick around for a while, so a balance will probably be struck with nothing but time.
