Khan Academy Expands Indian Math Curriculum

Khan Academy, a US-based non-profit organisation, is known for providing free world-class education through internet videos. The organisation produces short lectures in the form of YouTube videos. Its website also includes supplementary practice exercises and tools for educators. The videos and interface are simple and accessible, beneficial for students and teachers alike.

The tutorials at their initial period stuck to NCERT syllabus for mathematics and were for students of class 5 to class 8. In February 2017, Khan Academy added more lessons and today it provides free Math lessons from Class 5 to Class 12.

Khan Academy offers educational videos on a personalized learning dashboard for learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. One of the most popular e-learning platforms, they tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more.

Khan Academy was launched by MIT graduate Salman Khan in 2006 when he decided to post mathematics tutorials for his cousin. These videos attracted a lot of attention, compelling him to leave his job and launch the e-learning platform.

In 2015, their e-learning website began providing free online tutorials in Hindi for Indian students and teachers.

Khan Academy is funded by global tech giants like Google and Microsoft. In India, they have ventured with the help of Central Square Foundation (CSF). They have also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
