Letter That Will Bring Tears To Your Eyes
On Father’s Day Shweta Nanda (daughter of Amitabh Bachchan) found a perfect way to wish her dad…a Happy Father’s Day. This letter was published by DNA.
“Dear Pa,
Today is Father’s Day. We have never celebrated it, but it is here, so we might as well acknowledge it and get into the spirit of things. Today is also, believe it or not world T shirt day, I really have no thoughts one way or the other about the T shirt, why it deserves a day or why its allowed to eat into a day that should be reserved for you, so I shall not elaborate on it. I haven’t got you a gift, nothing tangible at least, the currency of our family has always been the written word and I am trading on it.
Being a stranger to the rituals of this day I thought it best to follow the guidelines and not veer too much from the format. The following are a few things I would like to say to you, please do bear with me, as a lot of what I am about to write may be a repeat of what I have told you innumerable times in the past.
– I am so glad you made it to the hospital, in the nick of time, when I was being born, as it is only befitting that you would be one of the first people to hold me.
– Thank you for letting the nanny off on the weekends so you could bathe, change and feed me yourself.
– I am delighted to have inherited your nose and long limbs. Yes, it was awkward being the tallest girl in class and I got teased mercilessly but I have never had to contort my feet into 7inch heels and I only have you to thank.
– I was always relived to have you on the dining table so we could be fussy eaters and vegetarians to boot, together.
– Those letters you would write me from your outdoor shoots in exotic places, and mama would read out, they sparked a lifelong love for history and travel.
– You have no idea how safe I felt being carried in your arms, so high off the ground, when I came across a particularly nasty cockroach. Or later in life when nasty things weren’t of the four legged variety only.
– Sitting in your room for hours on end while you played the piano or later driving around town listening to CD’s you had collected from around the world trained my ear to listen to and appreciate all kinds of music, and music has been my friend ever since.
– You taught me that if you have been honest, yet the world claims otherwise, do what it takes to restore your good name. Nothing is more important.
– When I potter around your office and come across scribbled notes from my children framed on the walls I am reminded that the little things are the only things in life worth holding on to.
I end this here, because I will need to save some tings for next year and the year after that, or for our book, if and when we sit down to pen your memoirs.
Thank you for giving me the best life any daughter could ask for. You have the largest heart, softest heart and warmest hug in the world. I have learnt to share you with the world only because I know there are also those moments that are only ours. Happy Father’s Day”
As said, Daughters are a Day brighter & a Heart warmer. This letter had her father into tears and it’s sure to leave the same affect on all the reader.
