Pokemon GO, goes to India!

Pokemon GO, the Niantic-developed augmented reality mobile video game that took the world by storm earlier this year, is finally coming to India. The game will be launching in the country on December 14.

Although Pokemon GO’s craze around the world has decidedly settle down, it’s still quite popular. And with the India launch, Pokemon fans here will finally be able to hunt their favorite Pokemon. The game will be available on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

With over 500 million downloads globally, Pokemon GO has become a worldwide phenomenon ever since it was launched. The game requires the players to move around to hunt Pokemon, using the smartphones’ GPS to track, capture, battle and train the characters.  Pokemon GO became the fastest game to get to the top of the Apple App Store and Google Play Store within two days of its release.

In the game, players are directed to nearby shops or temples (called ‘PokeStops’ or ‘Gyms’). Now, in partnership with Reliance Jio, the company’s digital stores will appear in the game as PokeStops and Gyms.  John Hanke, CEO and founder of developer Niantic, expressed his delight over the partnership with Reliance Jio to launch Pokemon GO in India. The company has also partnered with Mcdonald’s for sponsored PokeStops’ in Japan.

While the game is launching tomorrow, a major update can be expected late in December. It will add around 100 new Pokemon to the game and also introduce the trading feature.
