Spider-Man Fights its Way to Best Opening
Along with fighting villains, Spiderman also fought its way to having the best opening this summer. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse beat out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with $120.5 million in the box office. It is now the third-best opening for a Spider-man movie behind Marvel’s $260.1 million with Spider-man No Way Home and Sony’s $151.1 million with Spider-Man 3.
Comparing the new Spider-Verse movie among other animated films for domestic openings, it ranks sixth after the several Disney and Pixar movies and Super Mario Bros, which also came out this year. This sequel also made more than three and a half times as much money as the first movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The new Spider-Verse brings back Miles Morales and follows his adventure with Gwen Stacy, also known as Ghost-Spider. They meet a members of a Spider-Society as they have to figure out how to handle a new dangerous threat. The cast features Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy.
With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse joining the big names that have already hit the theaters this year like Super Mario Bros, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, and The Little Mermaid, fans are excited for the several anticipated movies in the year’s line-up yet to be released such as the new Barbie movie and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
