T20 Cricket World Cup advances to Semi-Finals

The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 started in Australia on October 16 with the group stages and moved on to the Super 12s on October 21.

The top eight ranked T20 International teams, as of November 15, 2021, were joined by four teams from the qualifiers to form two groups in the Super 12s.

The group games of the Super 12 stage ended on Sunday, with India securing the top spot in Group 2 after a win over Zimbabwe in the final league match in Melbourne. India and their arch-rivals Pakistan made it to the next stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup from the group in contrasting fashions Down Under. Follow SpotLife ASIA for the latest news and updates.

India, the only team to register four wins in the league stage in either groups, started with two straight victories, while Pakistan had the exact opposite, suffering two defeats in their first two games. India were already assured of the semis spot before their final league game, and the last league game was a virtual quarter-final for Pakistan.

After all the teams played each other once in their groups, the top two teams from each group made it to the semi-finals. If two or more teams were level on points, the team with more wins was awarded the higher place, followed by the Net Run Rate (NRR), if necessary.

From Group 1, New Zealand and England qualified for the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-finals, ending Australia’s title defense.

Meanwhile, from Group 2, India qualified for the T20 World Cup semi-finals after the Netherlands beat South Africa to eliminate the Proteas from the competition. Pakistan finished behind table toppers India to make the last four, beating Bangladesh to the second spot.

New Zealand take on Pakistan in the first T20 World Cup semi-final while India will be up against England in the second.

The T20 World Cup 2022 semi-finals will be played on November 9 and 10. The final will be played on November 13.
