Take-Aways from week 10 of College Football
Clemson and Alabama are not the teams we thought they were. Throughout the season there were many red flags that Clemson and Alabama were not living up to expectations, but this Saturday was the nail in Coffin. While many people were predicting Notre Dame to upset Clemson at home, the final score of 35-14 drove a steak through Clemson fans’ hearts. Clemson did not even score until there was only 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Alabama’s loss was not a blowout like Clemson’s loss, but it had a colossal impact on the college football playoff race. While Alabama is still technically alive in the playoff race, it is a near guarantee they will not be making an appearance at the SEC championship game, and now a victory at that game their playoff chances are slim to none. If Clemson wins Fan. They can still make a New Year’s Six Bowl but, dark times might be ahead if you are a Clemson game. Georgia appears to be in a league of their own. The Dogs were favored by 9 points going into Saturday. But the final score of 27-13 does not give Georgia as much credit as they deserve. They held the best passing offense in college football to an average of 5.9 yards per attempt. Hendon Hooker, the Heisman trophy frontrunner going into this game did not even have one passing touchdown. From start to finish Georgia always had control of the steering wheel. Tennessee fans cannot look back on the first three quarters to find any positive takeaways. From this week going forward it is going to be tough to find anyone who will bet against the bulldogs.
The fourth spot in the playoffs is wide open! Throughout the short history of the college football playoffs, this year is easily the most competitive, especially for the third and fourth seeds. After years of Clemson, Alabama, and Oklahoma making the playoffs between five and eight times, this season seems to be giving us a taste of how things will be when the playoffs expand in 2026.
Marcus Freeman will be the head coach at Notre Dame for the foreseeable future. In the Irish’s opening game against Ohio State, things went as most people expected with Notre Dame losing to a tough Ohio State team by only 11 points. Things appeared to completely collapse by week two when they lost Marshall to a middle of the pack Group of Five team. But in the last four weeks the Irish have completely changed the direction of this season. The departure of Brain Kelly was a bit hit too Notre Dame. Unless Notre Dame performs much worse over the next two seasons, which is unlikely given the terrific level they are recruiting at, Marcuss Freeman is here to stay.
