Aamir Khan’s Paani foundation, which has vowed to make Maharashtra Drought free facilitated the first set of villages that have become drought free. The felicitation ceremony was attended by Chief Minister of Maharashtra who lauded the actor and his work in trying to make Maharashtra drought-free.
Aamir Khan’s Paani Foundation on Monday felicitated villages that had been part of peoples’ movement to fight drought through watershed development. Five villages were awarded for their participation and effort, Velu (Satara), Khapartone (Beed), Jaigaon (Satara), Radi Tanda (Beed) and Wathoda (Amravati).
The Chief Minister also announced cash prizes for all these villages. Till now, 1368 crore litres of water was saved by villagers under his initiative, which equals Rs 272 crore worth of water being saved annually.
The Chief Minister & the actor heaped praises on each other, Aamir lauded the CM for his dedication and commitment to making Maharashtra drought free while Mr. Fadnavis lauded Aamir as “perfectionist”, “Social reformer” and a “Real life hero”. This comes in the backdrop of recent jibe taken by the Defense minister against Aamir Khan for his opinion on “intolerance”.
