India Plants 50 Million Trees in a Single Day, Breaking World Record

It takes 800,000 dedicated volunteers, 24 hours and 80 different species of saplings to set a record of growing 50 million trees in 1 day for a global climate change cause!

On the 11th of July, volunteers came out and planted 50 million trees  in 24 hours in Allahabad, India and setting the record for the State of Uttar Pradesh.

This massive project that’s followed up by an agreement signed on Earth Day 2016 by India to spent $6 billion to reforest 12 percent of its land by 2030, addresses many major issues for India like pollution, deforestation and land use.  These future trees will be produce maximum oxygen and reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by breathing carbon dioxide from the air.

“The world has realized that serious efforts are needed to reduce carbon emissions to mitigate the effects of global climate change,” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav mentioned at an event promoting the planting and in the effort of setting a new Guinness World Record.
