Movie Review: Detective Byomkesh Bakshy
Rating: 4/5
Set in the pre-independence era(1942) in Calcutta, the film is essentially a murder mystery. Meet Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, a goofy yet genius soul who doesn’t miss the most minute details which often skip the other’s eye. From the paan stains on one’s lip to a scar under the elbow, this man sees it all.
Not only did the Sushant Sing Rajput own his character, he lived and became Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. Director Dibakar truly used the actor’s ability to the fullest and hence deserves credit for the same. Be it the sudden twists, the camera angles or the brilliant way in which subtle touches of the 1940s era were brought in to make it all look believable, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is dark cinema at it’s best. The gripping point of this venture is the background score. Every nail biting scene came across as deadly, owing to the brilliant music put in. Swastika Mukherjee was glamorous and sexy as Anguri Devi, much like she was ought to be.
A shocking twist comes in which makes Byomesh realize that he has been following the wrong trail all this while! What is the new story?, Well your just going to have to run to the cinema and have a look for yourself.
