New WhatsApp Updates

WhatsApp has recently released two big updates to its global messaging platform. On Friday it was announced that there will be a new video messaging feature. Similar to sending a voice message, this update will let users record and send videos within the app itself. The videos can be up to a minute long.

The company talked about how they believe this new feature will allow users to have a fun and more efficient way to express emotion in their messages when they send a video. There will also be a hands-free way to record the videos.

Another update WhatsApp is working on is allowing users to hop in and out of group voice chats. Unlike normal group calls, this feature is more like Discord. Instead of the phone ringing, the group members will receive a push notification that reads how many people are on the call and providing the option to connect.

The update has a waveform symbol in the top right corner and pressing the icon starts the call. However, as of right now this update is only available to Android users, but it should be there for everyone else soon. Both of these updates are protected by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption keeping users’ information safe.

These new features come after other updates they had earlier this year like the ability to edit messages within 15 minutes of them being sent. Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has been having a “year of efficiency” with a revenue of $32 billion for its quarter, which shows an 11% increase from last year.
