Early Life

Shobha was born Shobha Rani Dhawan in 1945 in Delhi, India. Her father was a lawyer, and her mother was a homemaker. She grew up in Delhi and graduated from Jesus and Mary College in the city. After she completed her education, she got married to Jeetendra Kapoor and moved to Mumbai with him.

Career

Shobha’s tryst with the entertainment industry began when she started to support her husband, who was an immensely successful Bollywood actor. She actively participated in the production of his films, and as she gained experience, she started to feel the ambition to create her content.

In 1994, Shobha, alongside her husband Jeetendra, founded Balaji Telefilms, which went on to become one of the largest television production companies in India. Shobha was instrumental in creating some of the most iconic television shows on Indian television, such as ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,’ ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki,’ and ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay,’ among others. Her work gained worldwide recognition, with many of her shows being dubbed and broadcasted in numerous languages throughout the globe.

Personal Life

Shobha married Jeetendra Kapoor in 1974, and they have two children – Ekta Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor. Ekta followed in her mother’s footsteps and became an iconic producer in the Indian television and film industry. Tusshar is an actor and producer. Despite being a busy and successful mother and wife, Shobha has always maintained a low profile, preferring to stay out of the limelight.
