Somy Ali speaks out about Sexual Assult
Last month we brought you news regarding former Bollywood Actress Somy Ali and the 8th Anniversary her organization No More Tears and the fight against Domestic Violence.
Recently in an Interview she revealed that she was sexually assaulted at the age of 5. She also goes on and tells of how she grew up in an atmosphere surrounded by Domestic Violence and how it was accepted by society as an everyday thing, bringing to light the severity of Domestic Violence around the world.
Its been over 15 years since Ali left the world of Bollywood and since then, the last 8 years has been focused on the fight against Domestic Violence through the efforts of her Florida based NGO, which operates solely off the hard working volunteers and caring financial donors.
With so many media outlets taking this story and seemingly loosing its intended message we spoke with Ali regarding her recent revelations and what she felt about all the “chatter”, here’s what she had to say. –
“I have no regrets whatsoever with going public with what happened to me as a child. I am not ashamed of being a victim of sexual abuse. I want my voice to reach those that are afraid to speak up. We must stop victim blaming”
Somy further added,
“We must make it comfortable for victims to speak up against any crimes committed against them. Whether it is sexual or physical abuse. The stigma needs to be buried. I have full support of those that care about me and how difficult it was for me to come forward with this. My hope and objective is for others to come forward and seek justice.”
For more information regarding the organization and how you can get involved see the article on No More Tears and what she told us about the mission.
