What the Star Wiz, Andre Timmins says about IIFA

The prestigious International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards & Weekend has for 15 years, in over 12 countries, become the most appreciated South Asian Film Academy and a global platform that gives the Indian film fraternity an opportunity to reach audiences in International territories.

But whats the driving force behind this Global following which leaves Bollywood fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of their favorite stars?

Wizcraft International Entertainment, India’s leading Media and Entertainment Company has been dedicated to showcasing its expertise on the world stage, and behind it all are the three Wizards, Andre Timmins, Viraf Sarkari and Sabbas Joseph.

After spanning the globe, Wizcraft brings IIFA back to North America in 2017 for the 18th edition of the awards ceremony.  In 2014, the event made its North American debut in Tampa, Florida where founder Andre Timmins mentioned to Spotlife Asia that they will soon return to the Western Hemisphere and he’s kept his promise by bringing IFFA Festival 2017 to New York City.

Putting together one of Bollywood’s biggest events doesn’t come easy and as you can image, Wiz Andre
as he’s affectionately known, instills his passion into each element of the event.  Between trekking around cities for promotions and attending meetings, Andrea sat down with Spotlife Asia to express his thoughts about IIFA.

Here’s what he had to say:

Spotlife Asia: IIFA is known for the “Green Carpet” versus the traditional “Red”, can you tell us a bit about this and the message behind the movement?
Wiz Andre:  We want to tell the World a story, and the only way to do it is with action.  In 2007, we launched the “Green Carpet” as an initiative for global awareness about the need for protecting the environment.  This single action has taken the message global, from politicians to celebrates getting involved for the betterment of “Mother Nature” and securing a clean earth for the next generation.

Timmins also said that Wizcraft and IIFA work to balance their Carbon Footprint buy working with regional and global organizations to promote awareness and sponsor activities such as planting trees or raising urban gardens.

Spotlife Asia:  In 2014 during the Tampa IIFA Awards, you mentioned the return to the US, did you know all along that NYC would be the host city for 2017?
Wiz Andre: We didnt know back then, but Ive always been keen on coming back to New York.  Its a great city, full of vibe and culture, somewhat like Mumbai.

The Wizard went on to say that NYC is very unique, both logistically and in many other ways.  From the People to the many activities from shopping, entertainment, arts and culture, there’s no other city quiet like it.  Timmins said that when selecting a host city these are important factors which play a major role in their decision, adding that all combined creates great excitement for the fans, celebrities and partners involved.

Spotlife Asia: Our team has worked with you for several years covering IIFA and each year gets better.  What’s something new we can expect for 2017.
Wiz Andre:  We work to bring something new and fresh each year and this year is no exception.  History will be made as it will be the first ever awards show ever to take place at Met Life Stadium which traditionally hosts sporting events, that tells you a lot about how big its gonna be.

Andrea shared some details about the much awaited performance by A.R. Rahman, celebrating 25 years of music.  We wont spoil the surprise but can say that it will be something never seen or heard before, incorporating multiple cultures and music with special performances and exclusive compositions created just for the 18th IIFA Awards.

We continued our conversation where we spoke about the importance of not only South Asians, but all cultures to come out and support, enjoy and experience what India has to offer, from its rich heritage to modern advancements, all through the eyes of “Bollywood”

“Its a moment of pride and joy for everyone to experience” – said Timmins.

After travelling to 15 global cities across 4 continents over the last 17 years, this year IIFA is heading to New York July 14th and 15th, 2017. The big apple will play host to a galaxy of stars, socialites, celebrities, policy makers and dignitaries from India and other countries. In its 18th edition, IIFA will mirror the spirit of the city of dreams, as we showcase the grandest spectacle of Indian cinema. The largest contingent of Indian cinema is all set to park itself here and give New York another unique global platform to bring together various cultures, communities, businesses and people. One Vision One World!
