Super bowl snacks and apps

Whether you are an avid football fan or not, the Super Bowl can be enjoyable for everyone. Personally, my favorite part is the commercials and the food. The Super Bowl is an excuse to gather with all your friends and family and munch on delicious snacks all day long. Here are a few savory appetizer ideas that you won’t be able to stop nibbling on.

Pretzel wrapped pigs in a blanket:
If making your own dough is too much work (very understandable), you can buy a roll of Pillsbury crescent rolls at the store. But if you have the time, make your own dough. Let dough rise for about an hour, then cut pieces about 3-4 inches long, and about 1 inch thick. Grab your mini hotdogs (either store bought smokies or hot dogs cut in thirds) and wrap them in the dough. Boil about 5 cups of water and add ¼ cup of baking soda. Boiling the wrapped mini dogs in baking soda (for about 30-45 seconds) is what creates the pretzel texture. After boiling, brush the tops with butter and sprinkle salt on top. Cook them in the oven for 15 minutes at 425 degrees, or until golden brown. You can serve these with honey mustard, ranch, or ketchup.

Sweet and Sour Beef or Chicken Meatballs:
Sweet and sour meatballs are one of my favorite foods, and they are so easy to make! I like to buy a bottle of sweet and sour sauce at the store, but you can always make it from scratch using this recipe. I also just like to buy a bag of frozen meatballs; it saves a lot of time and money. Cook the meatballs in a pan on the stove in the sauce, usually on medium heat for ten minutes (but check the back of the bag for further instructions). And that’s it! You can place toothpicks inside the meatballs for easy grabbing.

Nacho Tater Tots:
I love this recipe, because it combines potatoes and nachos, two things I love. Simply cook some frozen tater tots in the oven or air fryer (again, you can make homemade tater tots if you have the time). Toss the tater tots in your favorite taco seasonings. Lay them in a baking dish and top with cheese and salsa. I like to throw the dish into the oven on broil to melt the cheese. Then, add lettuce, queso, sour cream, jalapeños, or any other taco toppings you have. You can make this Sunday’s Super Bowl even more exciting by dishing up some savory snacks. Even if it’s just for a few friends, everyone loves to munch and watch!
