The Mystery Behind the Bermuda Triangle
Everyone has heard of the Bermuda Triangle, but most people cannot explain the phenomenon’s surrounding it. It’s a mystery that has haunted the world for hundreds of years. One of the most famous instances occurred in 1945 when Flight 19, consisting of five navy planes, left Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a simple routine flight. When their compasses stopped working, the five planes flew blindly until they eventually fell into the sea after running out of fuel. The planes, crew and the rescue plane are still missing today. After this, the legend about the Bermuda Triangle started to spread rapidly.
Furthermore, disastrous events like the 1918 disappearance of over 300 men and 10,000 gallons of magnesium were remembered and linked to the Bermuda triangle. Similarly, it was found that Christopher Columbus reported his compasses weren’t functioning correctly when he sailed through the triangle back in 1492. These chilling events only amplified the legend behind the Bermuda Triangle.
The Bermuda Triangle is approximately 500,00 square miles formed by lines connecting Bermuda, Miami, and Puerto Rico. It is said that there have been over 70 disappearances of planes and ships inside the triangle. With most of the disappearances, the crew had sent messages that everything was going fine shortly before they vanished into thin air.
Although the mystery behind the triangle has never been solved, hundreds of theories are out there ranging from aliens to third dimensions. Even scientists struggle to explain the strange occurrences, sometimes saying its eruptions from beneath the surface or dangerous tropical storms.
Despite the fear, it has been proven that there are not any more disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle compared to anywhere else in the Atlantic Ocean. It’s not considered a dangerous place to travel even though it does witness more frequent storms and hurricanes. Planes and ships continue to travel through the triangle heavily every day.
The last known disappearance occurred on May 15, 2017. A small plane faded into thin air on the way to Florida after losing contact with air traffic control. The mystery lies in the fact that it was clear weather during the plane’s journey. It is believed that some parts of the plane were found, but it isn’t known for sure.
We may never find a direct answer to what lives in the Bermuda Triangle. Whether that’s because we are not supposed to find out or because it’s simply just a legend, we may never know. But we can relax knowing we can safely travel through the triangle without any increased risk. If there is anything to be afraid of, it’s what lies beneath the surface of the portions of the ocean we haven’t explored yet.
