Top 5 books to read in 2023

For the first twenty years of my life, I full-heartedly believed I would never enjoy reading. I referred to myself as a non-reader and never thought that would change. But now, just a few years later, reading is my favorite activity. Just like movies and tv shows, you must find your niche, the genre you love. For me, it’s mysteries and romance novels. So, if you’re still stuck in the mindset that you’ll never be a reader, just pick up a book. And if you get bored, find a new one.

Here are some of the top bestselling books at Barnes and Nobles right now:

I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai
This story is a cold-case murder mystery taking place at a boarding school. A book you won’t be able to put down.

The Snow Hare by Paula Lichtarowicz
If you enjoy historical fiction, this could be the book for you. A story of a woman in World War two trying to find hope and love and facing the repercussions of both.

If He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin
Described both as captivating and heartbreaking, this is a typical love story that may or may not have a happy ending. A book that’s meant to make you cry.

Essex Dogs: A Novel by Dan Jones
This novel is based during the Hundred Years’ War and tells the story of ten men in Normandy in 1346. If you like historical fiction and the gory parts of war, this book will entrap you in their legend.

And There He Kept Her: A Novel by Joshua Moehling
If you listen to true crime podcasts and engulf yourself in current homicide cases, you should enjoy this book. A book about two teenagers who go missing in a small town and whether the Sheriff can solve the mystery.

These are only five of the millions of books published over the last 500 years. Trust me; there is no better feeling than finishing a book and sitting silently, contemplating what you just read. Some of the biggest lessons I have learned in life come from a random book I found at the grocery store. Start 2023 off right and start engulfing yourself in a 300-page adventure!
