March Madness Recap into the 2023 Elite Eight

With so many unpredictable twists this season, there are no perfect brackets left in this year’s run of March Madness. The upsets started with No. 13 seed Furman University’s first round game when they defeated No. 4 seed Virginia with a score of 68-67. With this being Furman’s first appearance in the tournament since 1980, not many fans predicted them winning in the final few seconds. Unfortunately, Furman’s run was short-lived as they lost in the next round to San Diego State.

Princeton University also had a crazy run this season. The No. 15 seed team knocked out No.2 seed Arizona in the first round who many fans had predicted would make it to the Final Four. They continued their run after defeating No. 7 seed Missouri becoming only the fourth 15-seed team to make it to the men’s Sweet Sixteen. They unfortunately saw their season come to a disappointing end after their loss to No. 6 seed Creighton.

However, the biggest upset this season, and arguably the second biggest upset in March Madness history was No. 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson University’s (FDU) victory over No. 1 seed Purdue with a score of 63-58. This incredible upset busted all of the remaining perfect brackets for the 2023 run. Unfortunately, FDU didn’t get to continue their journey much longer as they were taken out by No. 9 seed FL Atlantic in the second round.

Another twist: there are no more No. 1 seed teams left in the tournament with Alabama’s loss to No. 5 seed San Diego State. This will be the first Elite Eight appearance made by San Diego State in its school history. The Madness continues tonight with the fight for the Final Four, so fans are excited in to see if their busted brackets still a chance have to pull through with the next round.
